Values Education Promotional Activity - “Name Our Song” Song Naming Competition
Objective
This competition aims to enhance the comprehension of proper values and attitudes among primary and secondary school students. Positive energy can be spread in the society through the naming of the song that promotes values education.
Targets and Participation:
- The competition is open to all primary and secondary school students in Hong Kong.
- The competition is divided into Senior Secondary, Junior Secondary, Upper Primary and Lower Primary Sections.
- Students enter the competition as individual entrants. Each entrant should submit only one entry or he/she will be disqualified.
- Schools may conduct preliminary screening before submitting a maximum of 3 entries for each Section.
Themes and Entry Requirements:
- Entrants should create a name for the song provided by the Moral, Civic and National Education 1 (hereinafter referred to as “the song”) based on the lyrics (Chinese version only). The song and lyrics has been uploaded. Entrants may click here to listen to the song.
- The song title should be succinct and catchy, encapsulate the theme and content of the song and convey a sense of positivity and optimism.
- The song title can be in Chinese, English or mixed. (e.g. “樂諾小太陽Stand By You”)

- To further protect the personal data security of participants who enrol in values education promotion activities and competitions, the Moral, Civic and National Education Section 1 has updated the participation and submission methods for the competition as follows (Resubmission is not required for submissions made on or before 6 May 2024) :
- The submission of Enrolment form (one for each participating school) should include:
- School name, principal’s name, as well as the name and contact number of the teacher-in-charge;
- The total number of entries received of the school.
- The name(s) and class(es) of entrant(s) in each Section;
- The entry(ies) (The song title(s)).
- The submission of Entry Submission form (one for each participating school) should include:
- The information of the school;
- The information of each division.
- The “Entry Submission Form” MUST be submitted in fillable PDF format.
- The completed and duly signed “Enrolment Form” and the “Entry Submission Form” must be sent by e-mail to info_mcne1@edb.gov.hk (please indicate “Song Naming Competition_Enrolment_XX School” in the subject of the e-mail, for example - “Song Naming Competition_Enrolment_Hong Kong Secondary School”).
- Once submitted, all forms, participant information and entries cannot be modified, and the information submitted for the first time shall prevail.
- Submission by other means, such as CD-ROMs by post or in person will not be accepted.
- The submission deadline is 5 July2024 (Friday). The submission time will be based on the date and time indicated in the EDB’s server system. Late submission will not be accepted.
- Upon the receipt of enrolment e-mail, the MCNE1 Section will download the entries from the designated website provided by schools and confirmation e-mails will be sent to the teachers-in-charge. Please call 21537490 or 21537482 if confirmation e-mail is still not yet received one week after the competition/activity deadline.
- Preliminary screening should be conducted by schools to select the best 3 entries in each Section if there are too many entrants.
Prizes
- The following prizes will be presented for each Section:

Adjudication
- Shortlisting of the entries will be conducted by the Moral, Civic and National Education Section 1, CDI, EDB and the Adjudication Panel will further select the champions, first runner-ups and second runner-ups based on the assessment criteria.
- Assessment Criteria
- Theme and content (50%): The song title can effectively encapsulate the theme and content of the song, convey a sense of positivity and optimism and promote proper value and optimistic attitude towards life.
- Promotional effect and creativity (50%): The song title is succinct, catchy, original, appealing and impressive.
Announcement of Results:
- The competition results will be announced on the Values Education Webpage and “Happy, Promising Little Sun (樂諾小太陽)” Facebook page.
- Awardees will be notified by post and invited to attend the Values Education Annual Prize Presentation Ceremony to receive the prizes.
Use of Winning Entries:
Winning entries could be used as the official song title and present in the music video. The music video will be uploaded to various platforms, including the Values Education Webpage, the “Happy, Promising Little Sun (樂諾小太陽)” Facebook page, e-Gallery and the Educational MultiMedia (EMM) of the CDI for sharing with other schools and stakeholders, as well as for acknowledgement and celebration.
Rules and Regulations:
- The EDB reserves the right to amend, suspend or terminate the activity at any time. If there are any changes, announcements will be made on the Values Education Webpage.
- The EDB reserves the right to change the prizes without prior notice.
- Once submitted, the works and entrants’ information cannot be modified, and the works will not be returned.
- Participating schools must ensure that their entries do not include any information or content that is obscene, abusive, violent and defamatory, and do not violate the laws of the HKSAR. Otherwise, the entrants will be disqualified.
- The EDB reserves the right to reject any entries or disqualify any entrants without giving particular reasons.
- All entries must be the entrants’ original works which have not been released or displayed publicly. They must not infringe copyright and interests of any other parties and have never been used in other competitions of the same type; otherwise the entrants will be held responsible for any disputes arising therefrom and may be disqualified from the competition. If necessary, the EDB may request the entrants to produce written proof of legal authorisation. Copyright/legal dispute is the sole responsibility of the entrant.
- Entrants and schools shall agree that the copyright of entries belongs to the EDB. Regardless of the results of the competition, the EDB reserves the right to use the entrants’ works (including the school names) in whole or in part for non-profit-making purposes, and to edit, translate, adapt, use, copy, distribute and upload the works to the Internet, without prior consent of the entrants, and without royalty payment to the entrants.
Personal Information Collection Statement:
- It is mandatory for entrants to provide complete and accurate personal data in the application form. Entrants have to agree to the provision of personal data (including the participant’s name, the class and the school name) and the authorisation of the EDB to release such data for contact, results announcement, prize presentation ceremony arrangements and promotional purposes. All collected data will be destroyed if they are no longer required after the competition. If entrants do not provide such personal data, the EDB may not accept the application.
- For the above purposes, the name and school name of entrants and relevant persons may be disclosed through the EDB website and/or other websites and/or media.
- Going through any links to the websites other than that of the EDB would mean that you have already left the EDB website. The EDB is not liable to or responsible for any security and data protection issues arising from the personal data provided to those websites or any redirection through any links to the websites other than that of the EDB.
