Placement of Newly-arrived Children
Arrangement for Placement of Newly-arrived Children (Flow Chart)
Newly-arrived children can seek a school place by any of the following ways:
- Parents may contact schools directly to apply for a place for their children. Schools will take into account their school-based circumstances, such as the availability of school places, when considering the applications.
- The four Regional Education Offices (REOs) operated by the Education Bureau (EDB), including Hong Kong, Kowloon, New Territories East and New Territories West, will provide placement services to newly-arrived children who require assistance. Parents of newly-arrived children may approach any of the REOs nearest to their living place for placement in primary or secondary schools direct if they so wish. Our staff of the REOs will arrange school placement for their children as soon as possible.
- An information leaflet on education with a self-addressed business reply / online form for newly-arrived children and their parents is available at the airport, Lo Wu entry point, REOs of the EDB and 20 Public Enquiry Service Centres of the Home Affairs Department. Parents may fill in the particulars of their newly-arrived children requiring schooling and send the business replies / online form to the EDB.
- Upon receipt of the business replies / online form, the Placement and Support Section of the EDB will contact the parents concerned within three working days for placement assistance.
- Children who have special needs will be referred to the Special Education Support 2 Section of the EDB for placement in special schools.
