Celebrating Successes, Sustaining Positive Impacts
Award Presentation Ceremony for the SOW Campaign 2021/22 and
Launch of the SOW Campaign 2022/23
The Permanent Secretary for Education, Ms Michelle Li, attended the award presentation ceremony for the Campaign on “Promoting Positive Values and Attitudes through English Sayings of Wisdom” (SOW Campaign) on 10 December 2022 to celebrate the remarkable achievements of students and schools in various activities and competitions organised under the SOW Campaign in the 2021/22 school year.
The SOW Campaign is one of the key initiatives for promoting values education and English Language education. First launched in the 2020/21 school year, a variety of student activities and competitions have been organised to provide opportunities for students to share inspiring sayings of wisdom, to enrich their English learning experiences and to nurture in them positive values, attitudes and behaviours. The competitions on creative writing, poetry appreciation, puppetry, filmmaking, singing and public speaking as well as the school-based activity “Week of Hope” organised in the 2021/22 school year were well-received and enthusiastically joined by over 10 000 students from more than 300 primary and secondary schools.
Ms Li remarked in her welcoming speech that she was deeply impressed by how the winners used the English language skillfully and effectively to illustrate what “Hope”, the overarching theme of the campaign, meant to them, and she showed recognition to the high level of artistic excellence, originality and creativity exhibited in students’ winning entries. Special thanks were extended to the adjudicators for their support and professional judgement, and heartfelt gratitude was expressed to principals, teachers and parents for their full support to students in various activities and competitions.
Building on the success in the past two years, the SOW Campaign 2022/23, with an overarching theme “Leading a Positive Life”, commenced in November 2022. The campaign continues to nurture positive values and attitudes, including “Cherishing Life”, “Diligence”, “Empathy” and “Respect for Diversity”, in students, and encourage them to develop a positive outlook on life and apply positive values in daily life through caring for and respecting the people and things around them. Highlights of activities under the 2022/23 SOW Campaign include the SOW Motivational Talk Contest, Poetry Remake Competition, Story to Stage Puppetry Competition, Filmit 2023 and Week of Positivity. Parents are welcome to encourage their children to participate in the SOW activities.
