The Principal Assistant Secretary (Curriculum Development) of the Education Bureau, Dr Gloria Chan, attended the Award Presentation Ceremony for the Campaign on “Promoting Positive Values and Attitudes through English Sayings of Wisdom” (SOW Campaign) 2022/23 cum 2023/24 Kick-off Ceremony on 7 October 2023. She applauded the award-winning schools and students in various activities and competitions organised under the SOW Campaign in the 2022/23 school year, and also marked the opening of SOW Campaign 2023/24.
Speaking at the ceremony, Dr Chan expressed how she was deeply impressed by the winners’ ingenious use of English to articulate the positive meaning of the overarching theme “Leading a Positive Life”. She also highly appreciated the uniqueness, creativity and excellent use of English demonstrated in students’ winning entries. Special thanks were extended to the adjudicators for their support and professional judgement, and heartfelt gratitude was expressed to principals, teachers and parents for supporting their students in various activities and competitions.
The SOW Campaign organised by the Education Bureau (EDB) was launched in 2020. Since then, the EDB has been organising a series of diversified activities and competitions to enhance English Language education and promote values education. These initiatives not only encourage students to share inspiring sayings of wisdom, enrich their English learning experiences and enhance their abilities in learning English, but also nurture in them proper values, attitudes and behaviours. The competitions on motivational talk, filmmaking, poetry appreciation, puppetry and the school-based activity “Week of Positivity” organised in the 2022/23 school year were well-received and enthusiastically joined by over 49 000 students from nearly 500 primary and secondary schools.
To build on the success over the past three years, and to encourage students to develop a positive outlook on life, care for and respect the people and things around them, as well as enhance their sense of national identity, the overarching theme of the SOW Campaign 2023/24 is “In Love We Share, In Love We Grow” with six sub-themes, namely “Love Our Country”, “Love the Community”, “Love Our Family and Friends”, “Love Myself”, “Love Learning” and “Love Nature”, to empower students in exploring the various manifestations of love across different dimensions. Highlights of activities under the SOW Campaign 2023/24, which commenced in October 2023, include the “SOW in Love” Letter Writing Competition, Poetry Remake Competition, Story to Stage Puppetry Competition, Filmit 2024 and Week of Love and Growth. Parents are welcome to encourage their children to participate in the SOW activities and competitions.
