SCOLAR Biliteracy and Trilingualism Campaign 2025 – “One-minute Video Production Competition” Open for Registration
Since its establishment, the Standing Committee on Language Education and Research (SCOLAR) has been committed to enabling the people of Hong Kong to become biliterate and trilingual. To further raise the public’s attention and interest in biliteracy and trilingualism, SCOLAR continues to launch the "Biliteracy and Trilingualism Campaign" (the Campaign) this year and organise a series of activities for schools and the community in collaboration with our programme partners, with an aim of encouraging students to develop their language proficiency beyond classroom and creating a social atmosphere that promotes the effective use of biliteracy and trilingualism.
The Campaign of this year emphasises the importance of biliteracy and trilingualism in fostering Hong Kong’s development as an East-meets-West centre for international cultural exchange. Among an array of activities, the One-minute Video Production Competition (the Competition) will inherit last year’s theme with a sub-theme attached – “Hong Kong and me – our dialogue, our story • Cultural exchange”. Through producing a video for the competition, students will better understand how their biliterate and trilingual abilities can facilitate their connection with different parts of the world. It can also promote Hong Kong as an East-meets-West centre for international cultural exchange as well as an international education hub.
The Competition is divided into parent-child, primary, junior secondary and senior secondary categories. Day students of all kindergartens, primary and secondary schools (including special schools) in Hong Kong are invited to register for the Competition through their schools by 28 February, and submit their entries by 28 March.
Participants in each category will compete for the Champion, first and second runners-up, the Most Creative Award, the Most Popular Award, and the School Award. The Award Presentation Ceremony is tentatively scheduled for 27 June; winners will receive book coupons valued up to $3,000, and the winning schools will be awarded $5,000 in book coupons. The winners will have an opportunity to serve as Language Ambassadors who will promote biliteracy and trilingualism in various events and activities organised by SCOLAR.
To inspire the participants to utilise biliteracy and trilingualism, as well as understand the winning strategies of outstanding video productions, SCOLAR engaged and filmed the winners of last year’s competition to share their experiences and insights. The video will be released on the SCOLAR website in early February.
