Physical Education - Teachers’ Eligibility to Teach Physical Education (PE)


Professional Qualifications[1]

  1. Schools should only appoint teachers who have completed subject-training in PE to teach PE.
  2. PE teachers must possess relevant qualifications when teaching activities of relatively high risks, such as swimming, trampolining and sport climbing.

 

Subject-training in PE

Generally, a teacher who has completed subject-training in PE refers to he/she has completed training in related education programmes at tertiary level locally or overseas covering the following course contents:

 

  1. Education Theory
  2. PE
  1. Theory
  2. Practical

          2.1 At least 160 contact hours in skill proficiency and teaching method of at least[2] 8 physical
          activities selected from 4 different areas recommended by the Curriculum Development Council;
          and

          2.2 Those who wish to teach PE in primary schools should also take “Fundamental Movement”
          related module(s).

  1. Supervised teaching practice in PE
