Learning and Teaching Package on Various Types of Dances

This Dance Learning and Teaching Package aims at providing teachers with references on dance in the Key Learning Stages 2 to 4, and support them in using the dance terminologies in English.

Dance is a medium to express thoughts and sentiments. It not only nurtures students’ aesthetic sensitivity but also improves their physical fitness, cultivates their positive values and attitudes and develops their generic skills. Through dance, students will develop comprehensively in the five virtues, “ethics, intellect, physical development, social skills and aesthetics”. It also enables students to have a deeper understanding of cultures and ethical backgrounds of different countries. In this regard, teachers should encourage students to participate in a wide range of dances to foster their interest in dance, develop their potential as well as enable them to pursuit an active and healthy lifestyle.

The Physical Education Section of the Education Bureau had initiated a series of Collaborative Research and Development “Seed” Projects. One of them was a collaborated project with the Education University of Hong Kong (formerly known as the Hong Kong Institute of Education) Headed by Dr Lina P.Y. Chow, 16 primary and secondary schools joined the project lasting for more than two years. To facilitate the learning and teaching of dance in English, the English version of the booklets and web version DVD with English subtitle is produced.
